Haresh Singaraju is a Singaporean family physician who has been a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) since January 2026.
Medical career
[edit ]Singaraju studied medicine in Singapore, earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Master of Medicine in Family Medicine.[1] He completed the NUHS Family Medicine Residency Programme as part of its 2018 cohort.[2] He went on to become a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians Singapore and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.[3]
Early in his career, he also served as Deputy Head of Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic.[1] He later became Head of Queenstown Polyclinic under National University Polyclinics, where he practiced as a family physician.[1] He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Chapter of Family Medicine under the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Parliamentary Career
[edit ]Appointment as Nominated Member of Parliament
[edit ]On 5 January 2026, a Special Select Committee of Parliament, chaired by Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng, recommended nine individuals to the President to fill vacancies for Nominated Members of Parliament, and Singaraju was named among them.[4] In the days that followed however, a photograph from September 2023 showing him wearing a shirt bearing the logo of the People's Action Party circulated online, drawing questions about the political neutrality expected of NMPs, a scheme designed to be non partisan since its creation in 1990.[5] Singaraju responded that he was not currently a member of any political party and that the photo had been taken at a party event where he had volunteered. He was however part of PAP once as an official member but has resigned.[6] He was sworn in as a Nominated Member of Parliament on 12 January 2026, alongside fellow appointees including Azhar Othman, Kenneth Goh Toh Chuan and Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari.[7]
Parliamentary involvement
[edit ]On 7 April 2026, Singaraju raised Parliamentary Questions to the Ministry of Defence regarding Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) suffering from mental health conditions linked to psychosocial stressors. He proposed stronger, systematic links and improved communication channels between public healthcare institutions and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to ensure continuous care for young servicemen.[8] He has also represented the parliamentary body at major civic and cultural events, such as attending the 20th Anniversary of the Tamil Language Festival alongside government ministers.[9]
