A report from Canada's official statisticians shows that consumers spent more on motor vehicles and related parts and services in 1999 than they did on food, non-alcoholic beverages, clothing, and footwear combined.
"Of every 100ドル of retail spending in 1999, Canadians purchased 35ドル.70 worth of motor vehicles and related parts and services, 19ドル.50 worth of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and 9ドル.70 worth of clothing, accessories and footwear," says a report in the April 5, 2000, issue of The Daily, an official news report from Statistics Canada. Spending on motor vehicles, parts, and services rose 7% from 1998 to 1999.
