Background[ ]
Physical appearances[ ]
The Sirens appear to be part of the rocky shoal they came from, as if they are embedded into the ground. Because of this, their bodies are covered in barnacles, starfish, and seaweed, and they lack feet. Instead their lower half is a tall conical structure of rocks. Their hands appear to be clawed and they have human looking faces with deep dark eyes and sharp razor teeth.
Powers and abilities[ ]
The Sirens have the ability to lure people towards them with their song. Depending on who the victim is, the song they emit sounds melodious, however, anyone who is adjacent and not directly affected can only hear screeching. They possess some degree of telepathy, as they can create illusions based on that unique individual's desires, no matter how expansive it is.
Role in the series[ ]
The Sirens awaited patiently outside C.C.'s Spa & Resort for their next meal. While it is unknown how long they have been there, they have little complaint as every now and then, adventurers who leave the resort, only to fall victim to their singing. Circe insisted that she "trained" people to get passed them, when in actuality, she kept them there to defeat her loneliness. Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase were nearly victims of Circe, only to escape and attempt to brave the Sirens. The monsters used their abilities on Annabeth, creating an illusion of Percy, Grover Underwood, and Luke Castellan asking for her help. She managed to see through this illusion and killed two of the Sirens, only for the third one to be killed by Athena. However, this too turned out to be a clever illusion by the Sirens who were closing in on Annabeth, only for Percy to pull her away at the last minute, leaving the Sirens wailing in agony over losing their meal.
Trivia[ ]
- For some reason, the actresses portraying the Sirens were not credited in the episode, despite it being confirmed that stunt actresses in make-up were used. One of the confirmed actresses is Cassandra Ebner, who doubled for Walker Scobell in the first season and plays Rogue Demigod Petra in season two.[1]
- In the original books, the Sirens were portrayed as giant vulture women with human faces that could morph into people that the victim knew. They were also constantly smiling and had reassuring expressions. While Sirens being bird women is the earliest known description of them, in the story they originated in, Homer's The Odyssey, there is no physical explanation of what they look like.
- According to Circe, the siren's music is different for each person who faces them.
