• June 30 - The Bear in the Big Blue House episode "Smellorama/I For-Got Rhythm?!?" premieres on Playhouse Disney.
• July 9 - The Timon & Pumbaa episodes "Don't Be Elfish/Lights, Camera, Traction" premiere.
• July 24 - Johnny Tsunami premieres on Disney Channel.
• August 21 - Genius premieres on Disney Channel.
• October 9 - Don't Look Under the Bed , a Disney Channel Original Movie, debuts on Disney Channel.
• September 6 - Disney's One Too, a spin-off of One Saturday Morning, begins airing on UPN and syndication on Sunday mornings and weekday afternoons. New episodes of Recess and DIC Entertainment's Sabrina, the Animated Series would be broadcast on UPN, while reruns would air on ABC. The block was reminiscent of The Disney Afternoon, and continued until 2003.
• September 11 - Select episodes of Recess andPepper Ann's third seasons start premiering on ABC.
• September 24 - Timon & Pumbaa airs its final episode.
• September 28 - Playhouse Disney debuts on Disney Channel in the UK, as it becomes the first country to introduce the Playhouse format of presentation.
• October 16 - Disney Channel is launched in Germany as a pay TV channel.
• Fall - The Disney Channel's logo becomes restyled, with Mickey (as well as the live-action people and many other characters) removed and the TV set with the mouse ears becoming a variety of colors with sparkles and ghostly effects, which was only seen on the Zoog Disney bumpers and promos. However, the channel's 1997 branding that was officially dropped in 2000, though the original variant of the logo continued in use until 2002 during the Playhouse Disney and Vault Disney program blocks along with "Imagineer That" segments and the Disney Channel Original Movies.
• November 20 - Horse Sense premieres on Disney Channel.
• December 7 - Bear in the Big Blue House ends its third season on Playhouse Disney with "A Berry Bear Christmas".
