I considered hanging around to catch a movie at the classic
Ohio Theater but in the end decided to head
home instead. I had followed the Ohio River's south bank to Madison so
naturally followed the north bank home. Seems I just broke even on to-do
hotels and restaurants this trip since I added one of each in Rising Sun.
June 6, 2009 (day 1)
No prelude for this trip. It just sort of happened. The weather looked
great on Friday morning and I realized I had no real plans for the
weekend. Possibly because of my recent stay at Ohio's oldest hotel, I
found myself thinking of Indiana's oldest and I took to the web to get a
phone number for the Broadway Hotel in Madison, Indiana. On the way to the
listing, I discovered that Madison turns 200 in 2009 and that the
birthday party would be starting on
Saturday. A call was made, a room was booked, and my plans for the weekend
were set.
Day one included eating at a restaurant that has been on my to-do list as well as sleeping at a to-do list hotel. Adding a scenic river drive and a couple of parades makes for a day that's hard to beat.
