Minor UI issues #588

App version: 3.5.1

Hello,
unsure if this has anything to do with the following issue, but my device font size is set larger than system default.

  1. The text in the 2nd column of log is not centered but closer to the right. The larger the in-app Text Size is set, the further it goes. This seems to happen only in the 2nd column; the 3rd and 4th (like those in Blood Pressure and Oximetry tab) are centered normally.

  2. Sometimes the date text drops to the second line, its line height is larger than the Comment field, which doesn't look very nice and takes up extra vertical space.
    Is it possible to:

    1. Make line height of date consistent with the Comment field;
    2. Adapt the width of date to fit the length of the actual text, so it stays on one line (but it might become long if "Show time" is enabled); or, have a setting for the width of date column, with options like narrow/normal/wide etc, or even allow inputting a custom value like the Text Size setting, so users can set it to fit their device's display. (For example, my comment text is often short so I'd prefer having date column to occupy more width.)

These are really just minor issues, though it would be great if they could be improved. Thank you for reading this.

  1. When you say device "font is larger", do you mean you increased it in the Android settings or in MediLog?
In any case this doesn't look nice, should be centered no matter the font size.

  2. This you can easily fix by dragging the right column border line until the text fits.
Calculating the required column width has been a constant struggle between font sizes, screen sizes etc. What worked for one didn't for some others or left too much empty space so I finally added the possibility to resize the first column.
Because of "Show time" being a tab level setting, the date width is a tab level value as well, means you might have to set it for each one of your active tabs.

Actually I beg to differ 🙂
I want MediLog to not only "work" but also to look good. Things like what you report I want to fix. Would definitely annoy me as well

  1. By larger I mean the global font in the Android settings. The issues happened with larger device font + in-app default text size (12) in MediLog. But for issue 1, increasing the in-app text size would cause it to show up even further to the right.
  2. Thank you for telling me this, it solved the problem perfectly! Draggable column width is indeed a far more ideal solution than any other options. My logs are ten times more beautiful now. I really love how MediLog looks clean, compact, and information-rich.

Saw this issue was marked as APK available. Does it mean that pre-release file is already downloadable somewhere?

Just found and installed the pre-release 3.5.2, so a quick feedback.
The emoji in the Diary tab is centered properly now, but the problem is still there in the other tabs. Please see the second column in the attached p2.png, where the left padding of the numbers is wider than the right padding.

There's a new build in the download area. Can you check it out please?
By the way, I like how you use emojis for Fluid. Did you add them as text templates?

Installed the new file, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be fixed. The left and right padding seem to be reduced respectively, but the text itself is still not centered.
Screenshot from blood pressure tab:
(The 3rd & 4th column is normal, not sure why only the 2nd one?)

And yes I do add emojis as text templates and use them like stamps :)

In 3.6.0 Beta both emojis and numbers are centered properly now. Thanks so much for the fix!
However it seems that in beta, the range for dragging the column border to adjust the date width has become much smaller, and can't be adjusted as narrow/wide as in the previous version. Dates with time can't be dragged enough to be one line for me anymore, though still enough for the dates without time to keep in one line so they are still neat and not a problem. Just mentioning it in case this change is not intended. The original issues have been resolved now so feel free to close the ticket.

That part of the code didn't actually change in 1.6.0?
I had the max width set to 40% of screen width to allow for the rest to still show. Looks like this is still not sufficient for your device. Increased it to 80% in the next 1.6.0 beta due later this evening.

That part of the code didn't actually change in 1.6.0?

It is strange then, because in 3.5.2 the max width looks like 60%. And thank you it is 80% now in the current Beta. I think a wide range won't hurt since user can adjust as they see fit.
Could you please also reduce the min value? So when the date is short it can fit the text length without leaving extra space. The min width looks about 10-20% in ver 3.5.2, but became 30-40% in Beta.
Then everything would be perfect and I really should stop pestering. Appreciate your kindness in responding to these nitpicks.
