Wrong character count #673

Closed

I wrote a post with some line breaks in it. The web client allowed a few more charaters than Fedilab.

# Steps for reproducing the issue

Use line breaks, I think.

Instance: openbiblio.social

  • Mastodon
  • Pleroma
  • Friendica
  • Pixelfed

Version of Fedilab: 3.12.0

Android version: 13

Sorry, yes. This is an example text to copy an past

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetuer at Nullam consectetuer tempor laoreet. Est ut enim dui sed wisi habitant metus matt

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetuer at Nullam consectetuer tempor laoreet. Est ut enim dui sed wisi habitant metus matt

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetuer at Nullam consectetuer tempor laoreet. Est ut enim dui sed wisi habitant metus matt

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetuer at Nullam consectetuer tempor laoreet. Est ut enim dui sed wisi habitant metus mattxx

The web client counts 500 characters. Fedilab says, there are 506 characters. (I think \n is counted as character). Maybe something similar would happen if someone would paste tabs (\t) or some other special characters.

Thanks!
I copied pasted it on Fedilab and got exactly 500 chars count like the web UI.

Maybe unvisible chars that have been lost during the copy/paste?

Hm, I wrote the message on Windows in the Brave Browser in the Webclient.By chance I hit exactly the 500 characters limit. As usual I later discovered typos. When I wanted to edit the message in Fedilab, it was above the limit. In the Webclient it was ok.

Same happened when I edited the lorem yesterday. But you are right, the pasted text works.

My only idea now is, that internally the Webclient used/accepted Windows line breaks and them saved (\r\n).

But it really is an edge problem (pun intended :)). So maybe it could just be closed if I just hit very special circumstances.

Anyway, for now I just wish you happy holidays (hopefully) :)
