I'm from Germany (Europe). Here, most people don't have a credit card.

But SEPA payments work in every country that has Euro as currency (i think).

Stripe supports it. Should be easy to implement technically.

Liberapay already supports it, so you should exchange your knowledge. https://github.com/liberapay/liberapay.com/issues/1356

Thanks! We definitely want to support all payment options we can — as long as they are compatible enough with whatever methods we need to do to minimize fees around micropayments. So, in the case of Stripe, any option they will allow us to do with combined charges (one charge per patron even through supporting multiple projects) should work. We'll need to clarify with Stripe.

Changaco from Liberapay said, that they already support combining payments from the same region and will support combined payments from everywhere in the future. Ask him for details.

Can someone ask Stripe about combined SEPA payments from all regions? It might rise the priority on their end.

I have written an e-mail for them and will send it tomorrow, so it looks like some serious business requirement and not some weekend project.

Hello,

do you now support combined SEPA payments from all regions?

If not, how is the status of that?

That is needed for our project.

Cian here from Stripe. Thank you for reaching out to us today.

I understand that you have a question in relation to combined SEPA payments from all regions.

Would you providing a bit more context to this question as it will help direct me address this question further for you David and advise you further.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

We are developing a platform where a USER can recurrently fund different projects. Similar to Patreon.

We would like to use Stripe for payment processing, but we need the feature that payments from the USER to projects in different european countries get combined, so fees are lower for each single contribution. Like multiple payments to projects in germany already can get combined.

It was said in the past, that the feature is not yet available, so i want to know what the status is now?

Cian here again from Stripe. Thanks again for your email David.

I appreciate you providing us with a bit more context on what you are looking for.

In order to get this looked into further on my end, I am going to have this looked over by our Sales team.

They should be able to communicate and advise further with you in regards your issue David.

In the meantime, should you have any further questions or queries do not hesitate to let me know.

Note: we have spoken with Stripe several years ago, when we got the api key we are currently using. So, they probably have a file on us. I'm not sure exactly how that conversation went or what information they know; I think it was @chreekat who was in contact?

Fwiw I don't think I ever spoke with a human. Somebody else might have, but maybe not. I just remember signing up.

Zach here with Stripe Growth Team, it sounds like our product Stripe Connect would be the best fit.

What would you describe as stated "multiple project in different european countries".if you could elaborate a little more by answering these questions.

What is your business model, and how do you plan on using Stripe with it?

Do you have an active website or some type of online presence (Facebook or LinkedIn)? If so, would you mind sharing it with me?

What would be your ideal payment flow? In other words, how are you paid? Is it a one time charge, or recurring?

What country would your business be physically based in?

Connect is a powerful API and set of tools used to route payments between a business, customers, and recipients who need to get paid. It powers payments for business models like marketplaces and software platforms Connect can be used on its own to send payouts to recipients, or alongside Stripe Payments to accept and route payments from customers.

They don't really answer the question. Can you have a look at the link if it does or should i ask more practically without answering their questions?

Hi Zach,

thanks for the link. It does not really answer my question.

I worked with Liberapay in the past that still seem to have this issue.

https://github.com/liberapay/liberapay.com/issues/1400#issuecomment-457838250

My question is, do you still have this "same region" restriction for one-to-many payments?

And if yes, what is the status? When can we expect it to be solved?

Our project is very similar to Liberapay or Patreon. Patrons can support their favorite creators with recurring donations. It is currently based in the US, but we might relocate to europe for stronger privacy laws.

So consider this situation:

A USER of our platform pledges to support 10 creators 5$ each per month. At the end of the month, their SEPA bank account is charged 50$ (actually the Euro equivalent) and your API does 10 transfers to the bank account of the creators that are all over the world. The USER pays transfer fees only once, so microtransactions like 0,10$ are feasible. Is that possible? Yes or No?

And would it even be possible to do many-to-many transactions, so the creators only get one, combined payment from all patrons?

Thanks for reaching out and for the example, it's a pleasure to assist you today with your questions.

do you still have this "same region" restriction for one-to-many payments? what is the status? When can we expect it to be solved?

Unfortunately the restriction about the same region is still activated, the platform and the connected account must be in the same country, I've checked the information and we don't have a estimate date to lift this restriction so far.

would it even be possible to do many-to-many transactions, so the creators only get one, combined payment from all patrons?

In this case is not possible, the nearest option is to use Separate charges and transfers where you collect charges that can be a different amount than what’s paid out to your connected accounts. The platform is responsible for Stripe fees, refunds, and chargebacks. What you can do is pay creators once in a month, this way they'll receive one payment instead of many.

Tell me if it works, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know, our team is here to help you.

Kind regards,
Juan

that's a clear response. my task is done to let them know that another potential customer needs this feature, so maybe the priority is raised a little

you can still start to support SEPA right NOW since combining payments only makes sense when the user supports multiple projects
