Tested with Dino and Gajim. Are they missing support for some XEP?

Only Cheogram supports threads. There is no "reply" concept in mattermost per se, every message is potentially the start of a thread. I have started some work on gajim threads it needs a little more love (and rebasing...) to be use-able https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/merge_requests/1007

Do you mean messages are just "mixed" together or that they're actually missing?

"Mixed" together not actually missing.

Then that is the expected behaviour. Threads are supported by slidge, but very few clients implement them, that is why you can't see them in Dino or Gajim. Only Cheogram Android supports threads unfortunately.

We could map all threaded messages as replies to the first message of the thread, which Dino and Gajim would show, but I am not sure it would be better.

That would be great, at least as a config option.
