LibreWolf Version

148.0-1

Operating System

Windows 11

Installation Source / Package

Windows Installer (.exe)

Description

Hi, thanks for the new amazing release !

So,

i like to play anime streaming videos from embed hydrax video abyss.to platform because playback is smooth with my weak wifi, i can playback hydrax video with firefox but impossible to playback same anime video with r3dfox and Librewolf in this streaming site :

(Lecteur 1 VOSTFR) (the second media player) :
https://streaming-****.com/episode/tune-in-to-the-midnight-heart-saison-1-episode-1/

I even enabled disk cache that Librewolf disabled, but the bug persists :

browser.cache.disk.enable true

I suspected the bug is caused by the absence of the OpenH264 video codec plugin provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.

So we hope LibreWolf Team will try to re-enable OpenH264 plugin in r3dfox please. Thanks!

r3dfox browser has the same bug and r3dfox have included some patchs and features from Librewolf, i contact the developer of r3dfox browser who advises me to do this :

"No idea why Mozilla requires this codec to play H264 which literally exists on Windows and can be played just fine there, and can be played with ffmpeg and any other player you want.

To enable this, go to about:config and set these preferences.
media.gmp-manager.url and media.gmp-manager.url.override
https://aus5.mozilla.org/update/3/GMP/%VERSION%/%BUILD_ID%/%BUILD_TARGET%/%LOCALE%/%CHANNEL%/%OS_VERSION%/%DISTRIBUTION%/%DISTRIBUTION_VERSION%/update.xml

media.gmp-provider.enabled and media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled
true

In my test VM this allows the browser to download the OpenH264 plugin, see if it works.

Would test the website on my end but it refuses to load for me."

i apply these advises and it fixed this playback problem in r3dfox browser !!

so it is official, the absence of open hevc h264 codec plugin cause some playback problems with certain platform like hydrax videos.....

So we hope please great Librewolf Team will re-enable this plugin to play videos out of the box without the need to make complex manipulations please !!

I'm honestly really baffled by this.
What even make you think all of this?

LibreWolf can playback videos just fine, especially h264.
You do not need to dig through some settings to download plugins.

browser.cache.disk.enable also does not break video playback.

Mr @alyx161 :

Librewolf 147 can't playback this video :

this is the original kframe url of embedded hydrax abyss.to video given by Check iframe extension :

from

In, the past, i succedded to play this kind of embedded hydrax video with Librewolf by using user agent extension , but it seems it doesn't work anymore....

i am waiting to be able to download the new version of Librewolf 148 to make new tests...

I make tests with r3dfox browser which has many patchs from Librewolf, that's why i say all that, and ,

today r3dfox user have problems playing Discord videos, and the problem is solved by enabling Open H264 codec plugin .

https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/issues/135

The developer of r3dfox advised this user to enabling the Open H264 codec, which resolved the issue with Discord videos ! :

https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/issues/135#issuecomment-3993957791

So It's confirmed and official: this plugin is absolutely necessary to play some videos:

I am not expert but I still think openH264 is necessary to play certain videos.....

Update :

just now i make new tests with Firefox 148, it seems we have to disable ublock origin to be able to play hydrax videos from

Update : just now i make new tests with Firefox 148, it seems we have to disable ublock origin to be able to play hydrax videos from LECTEUR 1 of website https://streaming-****.com/

Update :

I said all that because in LibreWolf's about:addons section, I don't see the OpenH264 plugin, like in Firefox...
in the past
I changed the location of the disk cache of Librewolf to my microSD card to protect my SSD from wear :

browser.cache.disk.parent_directory string channel
D:\FirefoxCachelibrewolf

But sadly, I had a playback problem with this site containing Hydrax Video. so I had to change the disk cache location back to the SSD...

I think I've found the cause of this strange phenomenon: r3dfox developer Mr. @the-r3dacted, said to me "No idea why Mozilla requires this codec to play H264, which literally exists on Windows and can be played just fine there."

so,
I recently have an expensive laptop with Ubuntu Linux (my dad, who doesn't understand computers, offers it to me, great thanks to our god Allah the Glorious then to my father !).
The seller installed Windows 11os on my laptop, but there was a watermark of Windows 11 asking me to activate the OS, and the seller told me I need to buy official license, even though the laptop is very expensive!

I searched through my documents and searches and was able to activate Windows 11 OS and the watermark disappeared (after disabling Windows antivirus, etc.).
I remember the Microsoft Store asking for a 1ドル or 2ドル charge to activate HEVC H264/H265 support if my laptop manufacturer hadn't installed the HEVC plugin.....

So I think HEVC H264/H265 needs to be enabled in web browsers because some operating systems, like mine, don't have official activation and I used a crack to activate my windows 11 OS, and I can't buy an HEVC H264/H265 license from the Microsoft Store because I live in Tunisia, which prevents me from spending foreign currency......

You could try setting media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled to true in about:config

You could try setting `media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled` to `true` in `about:config`

Yes, thanks for your help Mr. @any1here :) 💯

I'm checking, yes this setting is disabled in Librewolf but enabled in r3dfox because the developer of r3dfox advised me to enable this setting : Everything works in r3dfox. Now I'm going to try installing the latest version of LibreWolf, enabling these settings, and disabling the shield and ublock and I'll try it with this streaming site and share the result. Thanks!

Update:

Good news, let's start from the beginning: I enabled the open h264 codec in LibreWolf, but Hydrax video still doesn't work sadly :(

So I activated plan B: I cleared the cache and cookies...... and then activated the famous extension:

UserAgent-Switcher
https://github.com/ray-lothian/UserAgent-Switcher/

In LibreWolf's extension settings, I enabled the option to allow the user agent extension to access all my data, and in the extension settings, I enabled "Expose "navigator.userAgentData" object on Chromium user-agents" and i selected Firefox 145 user agent .

And it works! Dream come true, I can now play this Hydrax streaming anime video!

Mr. @alyx161, I think I'll open a new issue to suggest that great Librewolf Team offer us an option to change our user agent in case of video playback problem, thanks!

Glad you found a solution :)

A user in r3dfox browser repository advises me about HEVC codec problematic :

"The HEVC plugin is a seperate charge to Windows Activation. Even the big-name brands like HP, DELL, Acer, etc, don't include the HEVC plugin. However, instead of paying the 1ドル charge to get it from the Microsoft Store, there is also an official non-store installer available for the HEVC plugin. Normally this installer is only distributed to companies paying for Microsoft's Software Assurance subscription, however I have obtained a copy of this installer, which you can now get for free from redacted"

No problem, thanks Mr. @any1here :) 💯

Mr. @any1here and Mr. @alyx161: Librewolf is amazing because it allows the installation of extensions outside the store, unlike Firefox. There are video download extensions like live-stream-downloader where I remove the blacklist and want to use the uncensored version with the browser. I can install XPI's add-on, whose Mozilla Store approval takes a long time and may be censored in the future, like media-downloader-unleashed.
FastStream extension has a special version outside the store that provides Youtube support...

I have a slow ADSL Wi-Fi connection, and I need to use these extensions. We hope please the LibreWolf Team Team sets default values compatible with as many sites as possible without needing to dig into complex settings to change the user agent, for example, because I see r3dfox's recent commit: Bump Discord useragent fake to 148... so it seems not to be using the usual user agent, disabling WebRTC ......can affect the user experience.
We like LibreWolf because it offers easy graphical options not found in Firefox, and we like using it out of the box. We dream of the reintroduction of a privacy/protection against tracking/standard option or personalized, which can fix many potential problems and save you the trouble of responding to user issues. Thank you! :
