Graphical glitch on all websites where Librewolf doesn't seem to render the page to the full size of the window. #2819

LibreWolf Version

147.0.1-3

Operating System

Arch Linux / Manjaro

Installation Source / Package

Official Repository (Debian/Ubuntu/Fedora/openSUSE)

Description

There's a big grey bar at the bottom of the LIbrewolf window that appears regardless of any site being rendered. The site itself isn't cut off, it just doesn't extend to the bottom of the window. Like LIbrewolf is treating the window as smaller than it actually is.

If I could equate it to Resolution terms, it feels like trying to watch a widescreen video on a monitor that doesn't support the aspect ratio so you end up with the bars on the screen. Hopefully that make it clearer and not worse.

I've added two screenshots to this issue to illustrate it. The first shows the size of the bar when Librewolf opens. If I resize the window, the bar shrinks as seen in the second screenshot. I can resize the window to fit but it doesn't stay that way between closing and opening the application again. If it did work, then I would be limited to that one size. Additionally, if I expand the window horizontally, it doesn't scale either. I end up with bars on the left and right as well (see third screenshot).

Lastly, if I keep sizing the window up, eventually the content will jump to the window size but if I further increase the window after that, the behavior repeats. Like the scaling is binary instead of fractional.

defaultPref("privacy.window.maxInnerWidth", 1600);
defaultPref("privacy.window.maxInnerHeight", 900);

These are set in the librewolf.cfg. You can either increase those limits or disable RFP.

Perfect, thank you!

I tested out those settings and...it still doesn't seem to work the way I want it to. It's still jumping to different sizes instead of smoothly scaling like I would normally expect.

Given my previous issue with RFP blocking my training sites, I think you had offered a solution to disable RFP then as well. I have ETP set to strict already...is that kind of the direction we're going? It seems like disabling RFP while keeping ETP gives similar levels of protection.

@SpacemanSpiff
We are moving to FPP soon. It just hasn't been decided yet with what targets.

Disabling RFP while having ETP Strict set automatically uses FPP with the default RFPTargets listed here.

You honestly do not lose a lot by just using FPP with the default targets. LibreWolf can only protect against naive trackers anyway, which the default targets + ETP Strict + uBlock Origin should cover most of.

Using RFP outside of Tor/Mullvad Browser only really made sense when RFP was the only option available.

Sounds good. Thanks for the clarification. I already have uBO setup too so to get some functionality back, I'll disable RFP and leave the rest.
