Do we need to build for debian-derived distro's? #1150

Hi, I've set bsys5 up so that it can build for several debian-derived distro's. But shouldn't the debian one install on all? And how is that with Fedora? Do we only support fedora, or can the .rpm be used on all redhat-derived distro's?

• Important debian-derived = ubuntu, mint, kali linux, pureos.
• Important redhat-derived = fedora, centos.

So it looks like we should build rhel-based .rpm artifacts and debian-based .deb artifacts, make that work with the repositories, and that would give us the best coverage?

As i see it only main distro should be support as several already use their repositories (kali for ie use debian testing). I will talk about debian but can be extend to centos.
But take attention to (general not apply only to librewolf) :

• keep software as free(dom) as possible to allow .deb to be use with FSF distro
• a distro can use several Desktop env
• a distro can use several init system
• insert directly in official repositories (not easy as upstream ff not follow releases cycles)

For me if that 4 points are check software will be used and spread well.

A little of topic for me following GNU\linux distro should be support :

• debian
• centos
• arch
• gentoo

This is an interesting question since things evolved quite a bit, @threadpanic @maltejur @ohfp maybe we should revive this discussion at some point and decide what we want to support moving forward.

Bsys6 builds once for all linux distro's. That seems to work. Bsys5 still builds for several debain-based distro's, and I'm not sure really if they are used in the debian repositories.
