Preview pop-ups make the website glitch #30

Open

I have started to use Konform browser since a few days ago, and I have noticed that in the «make everything work setting» (did not test the other more restricted modes) websites with preview popups (for zooming pictures of products or things) such as Booking.com or AliExpress start glitching the CSS resizes not allowing me to select anything unless I am too fast for it, not to speak about no preview existing.

The only change I did so far in the default Konform browser was disabling ml, as I wanted the most complete profile but without that.

Hmm, without more detailed info it's hard to know if I'm looking at the right thing or not but trying booking.com, looking at accommodations and doing hover-preview on the maps both seem to work as expected. This is with the "Basic Features" preset. In general I'd encourage trying that for general browsing over "JMIW" (though I'd guess that's probably unrelated to your issue here. Also when troubleshooting, trying different presets and looking at their differences are good steps to take and differences or not would be helpful info when reporting).

Screenshots below.

Other troubleshooting venues and possibly useful results:

  • Try setting privacy.antitracking.enableWebcompat to true under about:config.
    • This will be new default for BF and JMIW presets starting next release.
  • Is this a fresh profile or did you import from other browser?
  • Version number? (If not latest release - go upgrade)
  • Ad-blockers or other addons involved?
  • Launching with -ProfileManager flag and try in temporary profile
  • about:support -> Troubleshooting Mode...
  • Errors showing up devtools (F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I) or browser console (Ctrl+Shift+J)?
  • Screenshots, links
  • Xorg or Wayland?

Xorg, launched both new profile and cleaned the whole browser (deleting the folder) and started again.

In all the attempts I used the make it all work.

The over in booking.com happens in the main website while hovering over the flights section in the main page.

For aliexpress, just load the interface and go for the list of items at the bottoms and move the cursor around.

The glitch may take a while opening those websites.

In the beginning I thought that was my setup so I cleaned everything and started to happen after a while. As said before, default profile and nothing else and new profile with defaults.

Screenshots let me show but cannot record screen. There is no error in the console that other web browsers did not show. Just that if you go to the DOM inspector you see the yellow on the elements changing size and re-rendering while having that behaviour like if some event activated it.

The pictures were taken before I tried again without any extension, then with a clean profile, then with the browser from scratch by closing it, deleting the whole folder and opening it again.

Same behaviour.

I tried latest release you did in every attempt to the alpine packaging repo you created. I will try the compat thing for tracking later.

There is a new version 140.12.0.102 and I wonder if you get better results if you switch to "Basic Functionality" (recommended) or "Just Make It Work" after upgrading? Doing so will enable the webcompat layer.

Hi, I have tried to upgrade the Alpine package, and now it appears to be branded as «Nightly» with the Firefox nightly icon, and there is no icon shown for the .desktop file.

Thanks for follow-up.

Ups, back at my Alpine box now and can confirm. Seems that was shipped prematurely and changes affecting packaging should be tested/reviewed more consistently before publishing. At least this breakage is cosmetic and not worse... Fix for that is being prepared (and tested!).

Appreciating the patience!

@EchedelleLR Alpine package has been republished with proper skin and branding. Would still be curious to hear if those broken sites appear less broken after you've encountered them next time!

The broken websites still happen. I deleted all the .konform folder, updated, started the browser and chose the option to make it all work. Still happening
