Monthly report & videoconference about Forgejo and forge federation activities #36

Checklist

  • Advertise a poll with dates
  • Written report
  • Video conference
  • Update the TEAMS

People interested to follow Forgejo activities from a distance could use a monthly report that briefly explains, with references, what happened since the last report. Focusing on what was done instead of what might be done is also helpful to guess what might happen next.

The monthly report is followed a few days later by a videoconference where all interested parties can discuss freely and ask questions, wether they are involved in Forgejo or just curious about it.

In November 2022, during the Codeberg e.V. discussions that led to accept the proposal to use and host Forgejo, the idea of providing a high level overview of the activities was suggested. The annual general assembly can conveniently use these monthly reports for that purpose.

I volunteer to organize and write that monthly report and organize the videoconferences, in the same way I did for the forgefriends project in the past. If anyone is interested in sharing the load with me, it would be most appreciated.

Where would those reports be published and video conferences be announced?

The reports could be published as blog posts on forgejo.org. The videoconferences announced in the chatroom and the mastodon account.

Right after the forgefriends monthly videoconferences (the last one I'll organize), @onepict and myself discussed during an hour and decided to work together on co-organizing a videonconference on a regular basis (monthly on my part, could be less depending on the forge federation efforts progress for @onepict) covering both:

  • forge federation efforts (@onepict)
  • forgejo (my part)

It makes sense because the two are intermixed and support each other. It will happen December 17th or 21st or 22nd either 4pm UTC+1 or 5pm UTC+1 depending on what people prefer.

I will draft a first forgejo report on December 15th.

forgejo/website#86 replaces this issue and is about the recurring monthly blog post.

I don't think I'll have the stamina and energy required to organize a monthly video conference, therefore I give up on that ambition.
