Issue: Other User Sessions on this Computer - Windows v4.5.99.2 #286

Open

Hi,

I have the same issue as #256

Windows 11 Pro - 25H2, OS Build 26200.7840

I have 2 local users on this laptop. I have checked and confirmed there is no EduVPN running on the other local user.

The previous Issue post states it was resolved by changing the Sign In options. But I have done that and it's still an issue. I am using EduVPN for Windows v4.5.99.2

Has this bug come up again?

Thanks.

Mind that this feature does not check if there are two eduVPN clients running (by different users on the same PC). It is designed to prohibit two users being signed in at the same time with one attempting to use eduVPN client.

So, you need to sign out the other user if you want to use eduVPN.

I installed it using MSI installer, using a command line string, saying that it's a "This User" and not "All Users".

So, the other local login shouldn't have anything running anyway.

Mind you, I didn't have this issue until I upgraded to the latest version of EduVPN client... so something has changed.

The MSI package always installs eduVPN Client per-computer. That's how MSI packages are authored. EXE installer the same.

You cannot use eduVPN Client when other users are signed in. If you check the Users tab in the Task Manager, there should be only one user signed in - you. If you have enough privilege, you can sign out other users from there. Then, you should be able to use eduVPN.

This is intentional security feature of eduVPN. As VPN tunnels are global (per-computer), one user connecting the VPN would give access to the organization network to other users on the same laptop too.

I do get what you're saying. But, as explained, I didn't have this issue until I upgraded to the latest version of EduVPN client... so something must have changed between versions.

I've always had both users signed in as I switch between users all the time. It's only when I upgraded to the latest version of EduVPN, this has stopped working.

Sooooo..... 🤷

This feature was introduced in v4.2 and refined in v4.3. Perhaps, you had v4.1 or older before?

The rough plan is, to make this "multi-user session" check advisory-only on non-managed devices. And keeping it an enforcement on managed ones.
