Release process #262

I've got a question about the release process.

Currently the latest stable is version 4.2 which is still hosted on Github. All Versions here are listed as Pre-Release. Back on Github every major version (3.6, 3.7, 4.0, 4.1...) were not marked as Pre-Release. Here version 4.3 is marked as Pre-Release. Is this due to some new release pipeline or will there be non Pre-Release version?

The eduVPN client stable releases are very rare and far in between. The last time we had courage to mark a release as "stable", we were still on GitHub as you noted.

The official stable releases are hosted at https://app.eduvpn.org/#windows, and we want to have the stable versions in sync.

I publish pre-releases here. I was using n.n.n version designations for releases containing new features, fresh bugfixes or otherwise require testing.[*] Occasionally, I make a proposal for the next stable release using n.n version designation. Should it really prove stable, developers get a permission to publish it on https://app.eduvpn.org/ and publish a self-update notice to end-users. Then, I sync the "stable" status here.

Indeed, there is an intense debate in the backstage when to make the next stable release. Unfortunately, 4.3 turned out to have a bug when connecting via OpenVPN on ARM64 (#261). Please understand, that should we prematurely mark 4.3 as stable and have people download and install it, we'd have major problem helping people with Windows ARM64 out.

I shall keep this issue open as a reminder, we ought to make a stable release soon.

[*] The version designation is about to be changed in the near future to better follow the semver semantics.
