Description

More and more users here at Masaryk University are complaining about connection issues on Linux (and also Windows machines, I will create an issue in the Win app repo).

Apparently, the application often hangs, for multiple reasons. I will try to explain some scenarios that led to these problems.

I think most (if not all) of these problems come down to users having more than one connection in Network Manager under the name "eduVPN" or a single orphaned one with the same name.

1. Multiple accounts

A user works on a machine from multiple accounts, leaving eduVPN active in one of the profiles when attempting to activate eduVPN from the other profile, the application hangs.

I managed to replicate the issue. I was forced to close the app.

Repeating the process results in the same outcome. I did not manage to establish connection.

We are not sure what steps led to this issue. The colleague that was having the issue no longer works here. However, he had to resort to using a configuration Wireguard file from the portal.

In all of these cases, deleting NM connections with nmcli con delete eduVPN resolved the issue, however users are running into similar problems repeatedly, which means new orphaned or duplicate connections are somehow created by the app.

Could you please provide us assistance with these issues?

On ubuntu 24.04:

Create user "test", activate eduVPN wireguard profile
Create user "test2", switch to test2 whilst eduVPN is active
NM crashes 🫨 and restarts, some assertion failed error
