Feature request : disable prompt #430

I know it can look strange but i would love an option to remove the prompt area.

That way, fuzzel could be used as a way to build custom menu : i would add a clickable icon in yambar triggering a script launching a custom fuzzel menu anchored close to the icon and usable with mouse only (yes i love keyboard but once in a while using the mouse is easier).

What if the prompt area was hidden but you could still type to filter if you wanted to?

That would be even better than what i thought !

What about disabling input? In my case, I have a confirmation dialog using fuzzel, where the options are only 2 ('Confirm' 'Cancel'), I still make use of the prompt for displaying a text/confirmation context but don't need the filter

@fitrh Those are the options we are discussing here, either to hide disable input completely or hide the prompt but still allowing typing to filter.

  • If we disable input, you could use arrow keys or the mouse to select an option
  • If we hide the input, you could use arrow keys, the mouse, or still type-to-filter, but you couldn't see what you were typing.

If they are easy enough and similar enough to code, we could try both and see how they feel. The hidden-typing option seems appealing to me to try, but I'm not certain if I'd like it.

Hidden input in combination with #411 could be cool.

+1 for #430 (comment)

I have multiple little menus where disabling input and forcing user to select one of the option would simplify the script and UX.

Just started using fuzzel today and kind of feel in love with it, was hesitant to try it at first because of the default light theme :D. Love the customizability!

As the world trends towards dark mode, maybe it’s time to refresh Fuzzel’s default theme.

Hey all, you can test a PR with this feature now in #596.

After checking out the repo and switching to the related branch, you can use makepkg on Arch Linux to build a binary at ./pkg/fuzzel/usr/bin/fuzzel. For other distros, check the install instructions: https://codeberg.org/dnkl/fuzzel#installation
