After merging the changes, I've still failed to notice a difference in behaviour.

Here's the attached log:

nikp123@HP-Laptop /home/nikp123/Projects/git/foot/build $ ./foot --version
foot version 1.2.1-27-g5a89ac6 (Mar 14 2020, branch 'master')
nikp123@HP-Laptop /home/nikp123/Projects/git/foot/build $

The issue still persists, when I move the window from one monitor to another the fonts don't seem to scale properly. When i move from 1.0 to 1.25 scaling the text still shrinks in the same way it did before.

Just to double-check it isn't a issue with my setup, I did the same with kitty and it does scale properly. So, investigating how kitty did scaling could reveal the answer.

Looking at your log output, I think the explanation is simple: you're running an old version.

This is evident from two things. First, the version number, foot version 1.2.1-27-g5a89ac6 (Mar 14 2020, branch 'master'), means you're 27 commits after the 1.2.1 release. However, the fix for fractional scaling should be at ~55-60 commits after 1.2.1. That is, the version number should be 1.2.1-59, or somewhere close to that.

Second, I changed the log message for monitors slightly, as part of the fix for fractioal scaling:

From your log:

info: wayland.c:788: HDMI-A-1: 1920x1080+1092x0@60Hz 2343 (23.10", PPI=96x98, scale=1)

With the fractional scaling fix, it should look something like:

info: wayland.c:798: eDP-1: 1920x1080+0x0@60Hz 0x42ED 15,33" scale=1 PPI=147x154 (physical) PPI=147x154 (logical)

Note that it mentions both physical and logical (scaled) (削除) DPI (削除ここまで) PPI.

So, please make sure to update to latest master. Let me know if you need any help with this.

If you normally use the AUR packages, it should be enough to install/update foot-git and foot-terminfo-git.

If you normally use the AUR packages, it _should_ be enough to install/update `foot-git` and `foot-terminfo-git`.

Also, make sure to remove any hard-coded "dpi" values from you foot font configuration; in your logs I see dpi=96 everywhere, which doesn't match any of your monitors' DPI.

edit: spelling

Sorry, my mistake I forgot to do git pull after checking out master.

But, the issue still persists as far as I can notice.

Sorry, my mistake I forgot to do git pull after checking out master. But, the issue still persists as far as I can notice. Here's the updated log: ``` nikp123@HP-Laptop /home/nikp123/Projects/git/foot/build $ ./foot --version foot version 1.2.1-63-gce68041 (Mar 14 2020, branch 'master') nikp123@HP-Laptop /home/nikp123/Projects/git/foot/build $ ./foot info: config.c:841: loading configuration from /home/nikp123/.config/footrc info: wayland.c:798: eDP-1: 1366x768+0x645@60Hz 0x0354 13.23" scale=2 PPI=124x128 (physical) PPI=99x102 (logical) info: wayland.c:798: HDMI-A-1: 1920x1080+1092x0@60Hz 2343 23.10" scale=1 PPI=96x98 (physical) PPI=96x98 (logical) info: wayland.c:834: cursor theme: (null), size: 24 info: terminal.c:482: using 4 rendering threads info: wayland.c:1027: requesting SSD decorations info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: terminal.c:526: cell width=8, height=17 info: wayland.c:634: using SSD decorations info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: terminal.c:526: cell width=8, height=17 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: terminal.c:526: cell width=8, height=17 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: fcft.c:451: /usr/share/fonts/TTF/TerminusTTF-Bold Italic.ttf: size=12.00pt/16px, dpi=96 info: terminal.c:526: cell width=8, height=17 ^Cinfo: main.c:393: goodbye ```

Yeah, the dpi is still 96, in every single case. Did you check your configuration? No dpi specified there?

We need to figure out where the value 96 comes from.

Running FC_DEBUG=4 foot might give some useful information. It's going to produce a lot of output though...

A guess is that you have a fontconfig rule that explicitly sets DPI=96.

Grepping through the various fontconfig files (/etc/fonts/conf.d/, ~/.fonts.conf, ~/.config/fontconfig/ etc) for "dpi" might turn something up.

Yup, this is not a bug. But rather an issue with my setup.

I just found out that ~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf had dpi set to 96.

Now it works as expected.

Thanks a lot.

However one more issue persists. When the font is resized with ctrl in combination -/+ it always starts from the smallest font size possible.

Yeah, that looks like a foot/fcft bug. The font's point size is increased correctly, but it's DPI is reset to 75.

Would you mind posting a new issue for this?
