Scrollback multiplier also applies to alternate screen #787

Hi,

The multiplier option in [scrollback] seems to also apply to applications that use the alternate screen. For example, with a multiplier of 3.0, scrolling in vim would move the cursor by 3 lines.

This seems usually unwanted as the application might have richer handling of scroll events. It would be nice to make the multiplier apply only to regular mode, or separate it into two options for each mode.

And thanks for foot, it's terrific.

This looks like an oversight... will fix.

I actually preferred the old behavior since I use mouse scrolling with less. Without the multiplier the scroll speed is unbearably slow: I need to swipe my touchpad ~10 times just to scroll through one screen's worth of text.

Could this be made into an option? Perhaps a separate scroll multiplier for the alternate screen?

You can configure less: use --mouse to enable "native" mouse support in less, and use --wheel-lines to configure how many lines to scroll.

The problem with mouse support in less is that it removes the ability to select text with the mouse for copying.

Hold down Shift while selecting with the mouse.

Note that I'm not necessarily against a new option. But if the problem can be solved with existing tools, I think we should prefer that.
