Foot Version

foot version: 1.17.2 -pgo +ime +graphemes -assertions

TERM environment variable

xterm-256color

Compositor Version

Gnome 46.2, WM is Mutter (Wayland)

Description of Bug and Steps to Reproduce

Fedora 40.
In config, in section [key-bindings]

show-urls-launch=Mod1+f

If replace "Mod1+f" with "Control+Shift+f" it works.
It used to work with "Mod1+f" for a very long time, but now it appeared, that it doesn't work. Maybe there is another way to map / bind something with Alt key ?

Relevant logs, stacktraces, etc.

No response

Your keyboard layout is most likely adding additional modifiers to the key combination. Use e.g. xkbcli interactive-wayland to debug which modifiers are set. Then use that in the foot config instead of just Mod1.

Command 'interactive-wayland' is not available.

Result of "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" is "wayland". With 'interactive-x11' it works. When I use Alt + F, it shows

keycode [ LALT ] keysyms [ Alt_L ] unicode [ ] layout [ English (US) (0) ] level [ 0 ] mods [ ] leds [ ]
keycode [ AC04 ] keysyms [ f ] unicode [ f ] layout [ English (US) (0) ] level [ 0 ] mods [ Mod1 ] leds [ ]

interactive-x11 is useless to us. XDG_SESSION_TYPE is only indicative, check WAYLAND_DISPLAY instead.

Regardless, you need to get the sub-command interactive-wayland to work, as only that will show you what Wayland applications see.

echo $WAYLAND_DISPLAY shows "wayland-0"

That means it should see and be able to connect to the Wayland socket. So, something else is wrong and you'll have to figure out what. Old version of xkbcli? Something else? I can't really help you here.

Looks like Fedora 40, for some unknown reason, doesn't package the Wayland sub-command.

The latest version does. Not sure if it's available in 40 via some non-standard package.

As dnkl says -

I don't know if its the same thing as me, but I'll just mention I use Mod1+Meta for Alt.
(and Mod4+Super for Super)

I'm going to close this. Please re-open if it can be shown that the layout does not set any additional modifiers.
