I'm not sure what list this came from, but I noticed this was blocked under your combined blocklist. It breaks websites (Ex. spectrum.ieee.org), and doesn't seem to be used for advertising or tracking to me, rather just a website builder. This should probably be added to the allowlist.

As an aside, I maintain my own comprehensive and carefully curated blocklists here that might be worth considering for inclusion as well (I think specifically my BadBlock+ could be a good fit). License is GPLv3, so there shouldn't be a problem there either.

Thanks for your amazing work & time as always!

It is on:

  • hpHosts FSA
  • Divested Experimental v3 & v4
  • AdGuard CNAME trackers
  • Block List Project tracking & fraud
  • lightswitch05's ads-and-tracking-extended.txt

They do appear to do various tracking and they also have quite a few technologies against adblockers.

re your lists: they are well documented and do look nice, however I do see quite a few things that'd be cause for breakage that go against my strict ad/tracker/malware blocking only given the wide use of my lists

eg. edgecast and google enterprise features

You're right, I just took another look and rebelmouse.com does look fairly sketchy, so it should probably stay blocked. Apologies, should've investigated more.

eg. edgecast and google enterprise features

So, the Edgecast domains were pulled in from CHEF-KOCH's NSA Blocklist (Which I also made my own version of and cleaned up a bit). As far as I'm aware, Edgecast sites still work fine, I've been using the NSA Blocklist with these domains blocked for ~2 years (As well as my family), and have never encountered any issues. If these domains do cause breakage, then I will gladly remove them. I'm not trying to block Edgecast itself, you're right, it's a legitimate CDN and I definitely don't want it completely blocked or broken, that's not what we're trying to accomplish.

google enterprise features

I'd rather keep anything related to monitoring/tracking blocked, but I think you make a valid point and it might be worth being less aggressive, since ex. people for work or school might need to access these domains.

I just took a look and I'm willing to remove:

chromeenterprise.google

edu.google.com

enterprise.google.com

gsuite.google.com

gsuiteaddons.googleapis.com

workspace.google.com

workspaceupdates.googleblog.com

These domains seem to be the main ones I can think of that end-users could actually encounter.

@ContentedGoat Would this be fair, or is there anything else you think should be removed as well? Regardless of if the lists are included or not, I appreciate your feedback, as I want these lists to be as high quality as possible.

@ContentedGoat Not to bother you, but just an FYI: After further research & analysis, I've decided to not include the NSA Blocklist domains in the combined BadBlock lists for the time being. One of the project's main goals is to carefully consider & document domains that we block through our own research & investigation, and I don't think taking domains from another (questionable?) source aligns with our goals.

This means that ns1.edgecast.net & ns2.edgecast.net are no longer blocked on the lists, as well as some other domains. I appreciate you bringing the Edgecast domains to my situation (which prompted me to further look into this).

Splitting is a good idea.
