The icon should follow the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines, also for colors. It currently does, but I see room for improvement:
- the underlying orange board looks off for PDF documents which are rather a heap of paper or a book
- I like the cutter knife as metaphor, but it should be more prominent in both symbols
- symbolic icon: maybe keep only the cutter knife?
- in the scalable icon the knife looks a bit like a thermometer
- blade should have different or no gradient (now it looks round)
- knife should also not be confused with a lip stick ;)
I am open also to other metaphors. E.g., I can imagine that scissors with a black rectangle could be easier to depict and grasp.
See current icons and brand colors here.
Brand colors (open for changing, too, will choose after icon):
light #d1819b and dark #943855
