Packaging: the released files are not signed and notarized for macOS, which makes it difficult to distribute it to a lab full of managed Macs.

Distribution: would be great if the package were added to common package tools like homebrew and nix (and package managers on other platforms)

That is a good suggestion. We do have that on the radar. Let me make a list here so that this issue can track the progress a bit:

bmputil-cli distribution:

• create blackmagic homebrew cask
  • create bmputil-cli homebrew formula
  • create blackmagic-bmda formula (while we are already at it it would be nice to have that too)
• create blackmagic nix packages (not very familiar with it, so leaving this a bit vague
• create bmputil-cli MacOS .pkg to install bmputil-cli without any packaging systems (we will need to get that figured out anyways for when bmputil-gui starts emerging ;) )

Community contributions to some/any of the above are welcome. Especially on the nix front because we don't have any experience with that. It will be at least a few weeks (more likely months) before we (core devs) have time to start looking into any of this, but it is on the horizon.

I went ahead and created a bmputil-cli formulae for homebrew. bmputil-cli does not meet the popularity criteria needed to consider upstmeaming the formulae to homebrew-core yet.

But I hope this helps a little already. I did not figure out how I can create bottles yet. But here you go:

@tkornack Hey, I figured out how to work the whole machinery and the bmputil-cli homebrew tap/formulae now also contains bottles, so you don't have to compile it from source. At least for more recent mac os systems.
