Discussion: Routing Mixxx effects after Equis (instead of before) #42

I like using Mixxx's effects. while DJing. As a mixer, Equis so far has been a great experience.

I understand that the current Pipewire audio routing is from Mixxx -> Equis -> DJ speakers, however, because the effects of Mixxx happens before Equis, all frequencies are affected by effects, even when Equis is EQ is applied (or not applied). It became more apparent for me when I'm mixing with the channel EQs are being used, effects being applied, and then setting the EQs back to "0" (I would still hear the lows and mids being affected by the effects)

Is it possible to route from Mixxx -> equis -> Mixxx (effects input) -> DJ Speakers? Something that would make the effects come after Equis?

Perhaps this would mean that Equis would need to have some way to load the audio files from Equis itself, and then route via Mixxx's Deck A B C D(?)

This would be something that mixxx & equis would both need to support.

What kind of effects are you using? Delays + Reverbs you can use nicely through the send/return system.
Everything else is right now only possible as a post main effects.

For mixxx it would need to allow to route an external eq back to the effect section.
For equis it would need to allow routing the decks out before summin/cue...
This would also introduce one, maybe even two buffer latency if the same jack node would be used.

I think I missed this point, and I noticed it in your screenshots: how are you directly sending Reverb and Delay into Equis' Send/Return? Do you just open them as they are and connect them via qpwgraph? How are you able to control the parameters of the effects (timing, depth, wetness, and etc.)?

Reverb & Delay are some of the only basic effects I tend to use. I think using it the way you have it routed might work best for me.

The routing is the same as you would do it a with a real hardware mixer. You take the send output, connect it to the effect (make sure the effect is all wet) and then you route the effect output back to EQUIS, i'm using the fx1/2 channels for this.

Then to use an effect you turn up the fx send knob and make sure the fx1/channels are audible (volume is up).

Is it possible to change the effect's parameters (timing, depth, and etc.) via midi controller? Or, is the effect's UI not midi-mappable, and one would have to manually use a mouse to change them on the effect's UI?

I have Linux Studio Plugins (LSP) effects, but they don't have a midi in/out, so I don't know if I'm able to midi map the UIs.

With caja you can load lv2 plugins and also midi map all their parameters

Caja, the Mate File manager? I'm searching nixpkgs, and I can't seem to find anything else named Caja besides that.
