We are taking train "Flight Number AF 7181", aka no. 9852, I think
(I am connecting from Montreal)

didn't make a matrix chat yet

@mcr, I’m assigning this ticket to you as the leader and raising your access to be able to manage it better.

Just as an explanation, the animal idea popped up, because last year we used a plush duck as a "flag" to find where the group is meeting. Whatever works best in your context :)

@mcr, just to clarify, you’re taking a plane from CDG to BXL?

My train leaves from France. AF could ticket all sorts of people, from all sorts of origins to this train.
I didn't know the animal represented origin country.

I'm taking an Air France ticketed train to ZYR (Brussells Midi). A number of airlines whose planes depart from AMS and CDG (and maybe even BXL) offer checkin at the train station. Part of a sensible restructuring where short-haul flights are replaced by train.

I really wouldn't go so hard about policing group names. I think the animals are just a fun/cute part of HackerTrain, not a requirement :-) (Also, it is not very productive and helpful to use this space for group naming arguments instead of the group coordination, as this is probably the main description/meeting/advertising place for the group.)

This is also possible with DB and ÖBB (or it was until last summer). So, for example landing in Frankfurt and taking a train to Brussels, or landing in Vienna and going onwards to Brno. The price difference seems to be just the price of a flexible ticket. It also seems possible to book this after the flights themselves are booked, from a participating airline.

IMO it should be possible even to replace longer flights with this (say Vienna to Bucharest or London to Amsterdam). And possibly allow for a lower price option that requires the traveler to take a certain train (like Eurostar's Snap program).
