Hi everyone,

During the last hackathon, somebody from the community suggested to create multilingual Wikipedia entries to promote Codeberg in different languages.

I've translated the article What is Codeberg? into French. However, since I am not a Wikipedia contributor, it would take me a long time before getting my content published there.

If somebody here is a Wikipedia contributor, feel free to use the content and publish a French entry for Codeberg. I have submitted a corresponding PR under #226.

I can also provide additional entries for Arabic and Spanish as a next step.

Best,

In order to cite references on Wikipedia, do they have to be in the native language? Since our whole documentation is not translated yet, I'm in doubt how this will work out. Shouldn't we start to work on a technical solution first?

I've seen articles on Wikipedia with references to resources in different languages. Here's an example: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gitea.
That being said, I can also adjust the content to reduce the number of references to the English documentation.

I do not fully understand this. We are not the Wikipedia. Submitting Wikipedia entries has to happen on wikipedia.org.

So I suppose this is rather about a welcome section for french users? Why the reference to Wikipedia?

Hi @fnetX,

This content was supposed to be submitted by an active Wikipedia contributor. As I've already stated in my initial post, somebody from the community suggested to create non-English Wikipedia entries to promote Codeberg in different languages. Hence the reference to Wikipedia.

It seems that some people here are thinking about providing l10n and i18n for documentation (see issues (136)[#136] and (22)[#22]).

We can repurpose the French entry to create a welcome section for French users as a starting point. And of course, we can remove the references to Wikipedia all together.
