REUSE Compliance #87

Hi, I just had some extra time to contribute because of the holidays, but that does not mean that I expect you to deal with this right now. Please excuse my brevity in advance (and thank you for your efforts).

So, I started working on REUSE compliance (https://reuse.software) for https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/codeberg_voting_system and the last thing that I've had to fix seems to have been the codeberg.svg icon, which is a copy of: https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Design/src/branch/main/logo/horizontal/svg/

So, I guess it would be best to start here, as I'd be able to copy-paste the exact same file containing the exact same information, which is the benefit of what I'm trying to do.

That brings me to two questions:

  • Would you be interested in having this repository become compliant?
    • If yes, I will ask this: The logo was released under the public domain, but is still protected by Codeberg's trademark. Would it be OK if I still credited you using mray using SPDX-FileContributor (and optionally w/ an email and a year)?
    • This would entail the following:
      • Moving the LICENSE file into a LICENSES file (I am aware that there is no full copy of the CC0 license, but I could find a way that will retain the text that is currently present in the LICENSE file)
      • Adding comments that look like this in basically every file:
/*
 * SPDX-FileCopyrightText: Codeberg e.V.
 *
 * SPDX-License-Identifier: AGPL-3.0-or-later
 */
  • While I'm at it, got any complaints regarding the branding in that other repository that I could fix?

Would you be interested in having this repository become compliant?

Not exactly familiar with that, but it sounds good, I guess.
The metadata in the svg should credit me by name. I think it is ultimately up to you if you want to give credit to me, since it is CC0.

got any complaints regarding the branding in that other repository that I could fix?

I'm sorry, what repository are you referring to?

Adding comments that look like this in basically every file:

I'm not a fan of that, as well as removing all redundant info from all files. Not sure if that means this compliance effort can't happen, but I hope you have the answers you were looking for.

One could use an external file to declare copyright:

It can happen, but I feel like I am trying to walk around broken glass over here anyway.

Not sure if that means this compliance effort can't happen, but I hope you have the answers you were looking for.

I will proceed with doing in external repositories instead in the way that I just described without modifying the original file.
