Would you be interested to bootstrap an events team for Codeberg? Starting with some online events like a hackathon? We had such things in the past, and I can share some experiences. The difficult part is getting people from Codeberg on board so that they are not only new guests, but also people willing to help.

We could also merge these efforts with the "Public Relations" team which already has a chat on Matrix.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, that's something I hadn't thought of, but something I haven't done before. It would be useful to my codeberg project as release manager for a large software project, to find, sort and test bug fixes for micro releases and to review improvements for minor and major releases, each of which are in six-monthly cycles and are scheduled for the 18th of August, October and December 2024 respectively.

I would be interested to know more of the logistics involved in organizing such an event if you can spare time to share your experiences in this area.

Thanks & best wishes

In the past, it was usually rather "low effort", except for scheduling the time (which is currently not possible for me much in advance).

you decide on a date (maybe ask some of your target group if the date works for them), create a meeting room (Senfcall or OpenTalk, I can provide meeting rooms if you want), and announcing it in some channels (mostly the Matrix chat, but now we also have https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Events/)

I suppose you start with some "generic" events that don't require specific expertise. Like "Codeberg user group meeting" without a dedicated purpose, or maybe a "Forgejo install party" after the upcoming v8 release (let interested people install and / or upgrade together, and maybe fix issues together).
