A little offtopic and obviously not an issue. Is there any IRC channel where we can discuss Codeberg ?

Hi! Currently discussion volume is not that high and focussed in this channel (the issue tracker), also accounts at Twitter and Mastodon @codeberg@mastodon.technology becoming more active recently.

It would be excellent to have a chat room accessible via either an IRC client, a Matrix client like Riot, or a Jabber client using MUC.

yeah that'd be cool, stay off the usual irc servers tho, datamining shitholes,
spend the couple of bucks and pipe to a stand alone vps somewhere or an old laptop
or pi etc.

tired of the freenode snoonet netsplit.de crap out there, totally ruined irc

so with half the folks on codeberg and some of the folks leaving github due to microsoft
there's no reason a chat server can't get built and done right, to back that up a bit that's exactly what i've been working on for my own site, and can use some help from other cromags that have more than two brain cells, by config is basically stunnel, openvpn --> torv3 with client auth and python's pychat, mashed up couple pychats from github leaning towards encryption, KISS, no gui, no logs, nothing but chat, so your encryption stuff comes in from pip as ya know this bypasses the junk with xmpp/irc so ya got no bots either, the other thing about this config is with torv3 auth that's a real admin deal, you give out auth code for each client don't have to change your 'site's name' like ya did with previous version of tor, tested it out and very happy with it, they did a heck of a good job, meaning you want to get rid of problem traffic on your chat server, you simply delete their key, that's it, they won't even be able to scan your chat server after that, and ya don't have to gen a new tor address
other thing is with 'otr' style chat, it's layers, so i modded up a aes gcm 256 single html page anyone can review, does a copy paste, encrypts and decrypts with pass protection, this single page can be opened via the browser, you type what your message is, add a pass and paste it into your terminal window to the chat server, this config adds an 'otr' like feature without relying on python or any irc xmpp 3rd party software
as ya know you can go further with this, stand alone 'cold' box never hits the net use the single pager there, this is almost a 'dummy' proof config, that was the goal. so non programmers like myself can do what everyone else does online without getting data mined
send me an email if ya want to review some of the python, i could use some help with it, i'm good to a point then i cromag right up, or if there's a better route or someone wants to work on something else to get chat goin for codeberg lemme know
