Spam arriving by email as issue notifications #2230

On Nov 19, I received 4 emails that just contained an unsolicited link, and the 'View it on Codeberg.org footer found at the bottom of issue notifications. The emails came from 4 different users; james82, jenniferalvarado, lisa76, and xdaniels. I clicked the links, but there was no issue at the linked URLs (404 on all 4).

I'm guessing the issues were either;

• deleted by other fediverse.party volunteers before I got to the emails

• deleted by the spammers, to cover their tracks

• never created in the web interface in the first place, but instead the email notification system was hijacked somehow

Is this a know spam pattern? Is there reason to believe it's now been dealt with, and no further action is necessary?

Hi,

The issues were removed by Codeberg, we cannot undo sending the notification mails that was sent for these issues. The email notification was not hijacked.

So these issues were posted on our repo, generating email notifications, then removed as spam by CodeBerg staff. Thanks for the clarification. That answers the question about whether what I reported is a known spam pattern. But ...

Is there reason to believe it's now been dealt with, and no further action is necessary?
