I am not able to create a branch from the issue itself. I think it make sense to be able to create a branch from here.

The repo main page lets you do that so I am not sure why it wouldn't work in issue page.

I couldn't find issue that already brought this up. lmk if an issue for this already exists.

Why do you want to create a branch from an issue? Which branch would it create the branch from?

@fnetX

Why do you want to create a branch from an issue?

I think there is a slight misunderstanding. I mean creating a branch from within the issue page.

Issues page lets me assign an already existing branch to an issue. But I cannot create a new branch right there.

Which branch would it create the branch from?

It should work more or less how the branch thing works on the repo main page.

I attached screenshots for clarification abive. The first one is from issue and second one is from repo main.

As you can see the behave very differently when I enter a branch name that doesn't exist..

Hello! I would be interested in this functionality also!

To have a workflow like:

  • an issue is created
  • go to the issue, click on the branch drop menu and create the branch directly from there
    • it could let you select the parent branch (main, dev, ...) for the new branch
    • it could propose an automatic name for the branch based on the issue title

I think this could be useful when working in a 1 issue -> 1 branch style (if more than 1 issue is associated to one branch then it is not needed)

This would be a big plus!
I want to have my feature branches separated from the main branch with one click.
