Unable to Verify Email (Internal Server Error 500) #1846

Very recently signed up for a Codeberg account to evade our corporate overlords, and am encountering issues with verifying my email.

  1. In my account settings I request an activation link be sent to my email.
  2. It arrives within ~60 seconds.
  3. I use the link opening it in the same browser and device that it was requested from.
  4. I'm prompted for my password to verify and I do so.
  5. With my password entered I proceed and the page redirects to an "Internal Server Error 500" with no information other than the site version.

My immediate thought is that it's a case of my Firefox configuration/extensions getting in the way, or because I'm using a VPN.
So I disable my VPN and try again in Edge which I keep in a clean state that I use only for cases like this.
Same result, I'm redirected to an Internal Server Error 500 page.
I tried once more to ensure it wasn't just bad luck, nothing.

I then waited until the next day to try again thinking maybe the verification service was having trouble that day.
Still the same issue the next day though, and I can't think of anything on my end being the cause.

I do wonder if it the same as this issue on Forgejo from 9 months ago.
Perhaps my account had to be manually approved since I made it while on a VPN.

Naturally as soon as I posted this I realised I didn't check closed issues and found this:
#1817

My email does have uppercase characters, so I'll try this workaround.

EDIT:
Annnnnd that worked. 🤦‍♂️
Well at least this can serve as a 2nd thread for others in need of a solution to stumble upon.

Just for reference:
I added another email to the account, making sure to only user lowercase in case it does matter.
I verified this one successfully.
I then made it my primary and removed the original problematic email.
I then added the email back again making sure to use lowercase and successfully verified it this time.
Then I made it the primary, and removed the temporary email.
