Hello, Awesome Project. Love the Performance and the Philosophy.

Ive been using such apps (Obsidian, Upnote, Logseq....) for quite a while now, havent been totally happy with them. Some use too much resources and so.

Anyway here are a few Ideas, ive Collected through out the years that IMO would be pretty cool to have in helix.

  • Inline tagging, with suggestions

    • Progessive Filtering tagging (always wanted that) I can elaborate if wanted
  • a Quick Note global hotkey (like Upnote) - this was never inspired by upnote but of the need to quickly jot something down, upnote has (afaik) the only implementation that is with zero friction

    • preferably with a input modal like cmdpal from windows powertoys (others are flowlauncher or such)
  • backlinks (enhanced)

  • tag cloud

  • a canvas

    • that shows the backlinks
    • ...
  • vim

I will elaborate on all these points and add more. Didnt want to put high effort, since I dont know how feature requests are handled yet. These thoughts are not just coming up, some of these Ideas I had for years and some are IMO pretty unique.

Thanks for reading, thanks for your effort.

Thanks for the thoughtful list. Here's where each one stands:

  • Inline tagging: we have tags with autocomplete. Inline (in-body) tagging is a different concept; would need to see more demand for it.
  • Quick Note global hotkey: good idea, on the roadmap. Zero-friction capture fits the app's philosophy.
  • Backlinks: already covered via wiki-links + graph view (bidirectional). Open the graph to see what links to the current note.
  • Tag cloud: could happen as a sidebar view toggle. Low effort, not bloat.
  • Canvas: out of scope for now. That's a separate app's worth of work and doesn't fit the performance-first goal.
  • Vim mode: unlikely. TipTap doesn't support it and building one is a large effort. Source mode (Ctrl+E) is the closest alternative.

Feel free to open separate issues for the ones you care about most so we can track them individually. The quick-note hotkey and tag cloud are the most realistic short-term candidates.
