内容説明
Changes in industrial methods and in the geographical distribution of industry have left a legacy of old sites that are dangerous and disfigure the landscape. This book provides a framework for surveying and assessing derelict or contaminated land for possible re-use. Many problems can be encountered, including those posed by ruined buildings, precipitous quarry faces, and flooded workings, which can present a hazard to life. Contamination by toxic wastes represents long-term hazards of a different kind. The author shows how official guidelines for acceptable levels of contamination in soils can be used to decide on the most effective treatment of the affected land. He gives a summary of the legal framework within which land restoration takes place in the UK, together with some example of land restoration on difficult sites.
