Description and Table of Contents
Description
It was generally accepted that the numbers of people becoming homeless had increased during the 1980s, but little was known for fact. So in November 1990 the Department of the Environment commissioned the Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York to conduct a survey. More than 2,000 single homeless people participated in this study, and field work was conducted in ten local authority areas in England. This comprehensive survey also aimed to establish the characteristics of these people, the reasons why they were homeless, and their accommodation needs and preferences. The results of this survey are published here.
