Since 1940 the National Food Survey has provided continuous information on household food consumption and expenditure in Great Britain. The survey is an authoritative source of detailed information on household food purchases and has been used extensively to monitor the nutritional aspects of the average household diet, as well as economic trends. This report presents the 1993 results of the National Food Survey and provides comparisons with those of the immediately preceding years. A special section of the report highlights trends in the consumption of these foods in households with different characteristics and the nutritional value of convenience foods in the household diet.
