citability.dev
AI Visibility Auditing
Built the product, the AVR Framework, and the audit methodology from scratch. Every check traces to official documentation. Runs paid audit tiers end-to-end.
Project Overview
citability.dev measures what Ahrefs and Semrush do not: whether AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude can find and cite your content. Infrastructure checks are labeled VERIFIABLE or BEST-EFFORT with source citations. The platform supports self-serve paid tiers (Stripe) and consulting audit reports, all grounded in the open-source AVR Framework v1.1.0.
Challenge
Build an AI visibility tool that SEO professionals would trust, backed by transparent methodology and real crawler evidence, with a paid audit tier that justifies the price through buyer value, not score inflation.
Key Features
Infrastructure Scan
VERIFIABLE and BEST-EFFORT tier checks covering robots.txt, sitemap, schema, meta, canonical, HTTPS, headings, OG tags, answer-first content, and freshness.
Evidence-Tiered Scoring
Every check carries an explicit confidence tier and source citation. No composite black-box scores.
AVR Framework v1.1.0
Open-source AI Visibility Readiness framework powering the scan methodology. Apache 2.0, public on GitHub, used to audit Ahrefs, Semrush, and CSS-Tricks.
Lessons Learned
- school Transparency about what crawlers actually read is more credible than inflated check counts. A VERIFIABLE tier beats a 100-point composite score for trust.
