Please do not drop support. Python is widely used in the "Solaris" community with most people downloading packages from Openindiana/Hipster or Joyent/SmartOS repos. Most "Solaris" users are not using Solaris proper. The download stats published in this ticket is not a good representation of usage. Similarly most (Free\|Open\|*)BSD users install from their respective versions of ports.
