I close this very old issue (15 years old!). Thank you very much to everybody who was involved in helping to get it fixed! If I forgot someone, comment this issue or open a new one. There is one last minor issue, but there is already a dedicated issue: bpo-24871 "freeze.py doesn't work on x86_64 Linux out of the box".
