I tried your patch on AIX 7.2, looks like you need to shift sys import to the top Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/isidentical/cpython/./setup.py", line 16, in <module> sys.modules['subprocess'] = _bootsubprocess NameError: name 'sys' is not defined make: The error code from the last command is 1. Stop.
