Ok, so. I wrote a different PR: PR 3927 adds a new PYTHONSHOWALLOCCOUNT environment variable and write allocations statistics into stderr (rather than stdout) when PYTHONSHOWALLOCCOUNT is set. The PR also fixes the test suite for COUNT_ALLOCS.
