FWIW, on x86/x64 gcc often generates identical code for x = y and
memcpy(x, y, 8). See e.g. the PACK_SINGLE and UNPACK_SINGLE macros in
Objects/memoryobject.c.
I didn't look at the patch yet, just an idea. |
