Hello. While trying to find a way for extracting strange characters in an ascii file, I stumbled upon some strange behaviour of IDLE, which exits without warning after running the following regex: re.findall(b"\x.{2}", b"sdds\xd8") In Python 2.6, this won't happen. This is my version of Python 3.1: Python 3.1 (r31:73574, Jun 26 2009, 20:21:35).

While trying to find a way for extracting strange characters in an ascii file, I stumbled upon some strange behaviour of IDLE, which exits without warning after running the following regex:
re.findall(b"\x.{2}", b"sdds\xd8")
In Python 2.6, this won't happen. This is my version of Python 3.1:
