fileLineIter() is not a solution that allows this bug to be closed, no. readline() needs modifying and if that means python-dev discussion then that's what it needs. Things to consider include changing the record separator as the file is read. $ printf 'a b c\nd e f ' \| > awk '{print "<" 0ドル ">"} NR == 1 {RS = " "}' <a b c> <d> <e> <f> $
