Bug Description
A user should be able to edit their own comments to made typo fixes and to clarify points made in comments.
There may be some concerns about editing comments and that this may change the meaning of the thread and make comments which depend on the edited comment no longer accurate.
However, as long as subcribers are notified that a change has been made they have the option to respond by editing their own comments.
After a certain period of time, it might be a good idea to not allow editing of comments (say 15 days) to avoid re-opening issues that have been solved/are no longer relevant, etc. Alternatively, we may want to only allow editing of answers that are in a certain state (Open, for instance).
For the Bugs equivalent, see bug 80895.
It would also be good for members of a designated team to be able to edit other people's comments and even to delete them for spam cleanup.
Ooops, sorry for the typo.

marking the malone task as invalid since we have bug 80895 already
This is undoubtedly a much needed feature. It seems to have annoyed many people, including myself, when seeing a mistake in a comment. I see no real disavantages such functionality available to non-admin users anyway. A history of edits to the question/all the answers & comments should be sufficient to prevent confusion regarding what is a response to what
Hi :)
As an administrator i can see that having a huge amount of data regarding the history of edits to a thread might be slightly unwieldy. While it's extremely effective for community documentation i think its a route worth avoiding for the Answers section.
However, i do agree with Noldorin that this feature really does need to be implemented because it does make Launchpad look very out-of-date and is very frustrating.
I have recently noticed that when i post a comment the comment is given a green fading background for a tiny amount of time and this didn't used to happen until quite recently. If this green fade time allowed people to edit their comment then that might be useful but the time is tooo short. It looks like things are moving in the right direction with this?
Regards from
Tom :)
Yes, bug 80895 is the way i would like to see this go :)
Tom's teh = the in post #3 would not be needed if this bug was eliminated and an edit permitted. The bug reports would then be cleaner and easier to read.
After reading a comment I posted recently, I may need to correct something in that.
I guess it's a necessary ability.
