However, some users - especially those with shell accounts - will find that their password no longer works. I'll provide alternative login details to you asap The problem appears to have been caused by a failed processor fan. This causes the system to overheat and shut itself down around 150 seconds after startup. We have already experienced one processor failure this year (wintermute was originally a dual processor machine), so there's a spare (including fan) waiting to be fitted. Unfortunately, final diagnosis of the problem occurred too late for me to fix it on Friday, so we'll have to wait til Monday morning. And yes, the first processor death seems to have had the same root cause - the bundled fan with AMD's Athlon MP 2200+ processor. They replaced the first one without too much fuss, so we should get a second replacement FOC, but still... feh. More details to follow... rory@nothovel.net, 2004年11月12日 @ 16.20
