Sam, impliqué dans Debian depuis 2000, est le dix‐septième DPL depuis le 21 avril 2019 et jusqu’au 20 avril 2020. Il succède donc à Chris Lamb, qui a été DPL pendant deux ans. Joerg Jaspert, Jonathan Carter et Martin Michlmayr ont été les autres candidats.
