Friends, this is the kind of entry that usually appears as a Quipsology; but since Armin and Bryony are in Berlin — and they’re the ones who collectively post our entries — I feel compelled to post due to the time sensitivity of the subject.
If you’re the type that likes contemporary theory, then Turner Classic Movies has a treat in store this Wednesday evening/early Thursday morning. Orsen Welles’ F for Fake will be shown as part of their May Welles festival. Prepare yourselves for a postmodern work comprised of pastiche, self-referentiality, intertextual play and slippery identities.
I saw it once, a few years ago, and found it compelling and apropos to recent Speak Up discussions on design’s relationship to Theory. Hopefully I’ll feel the same tomorrow night.
FYI, the film has just been released on DVD from The Criterion Collection.

On May.18.2005 at 03:54 PMHey Mark:
The amazing Tivo thing I have recorded it last night. I'll let you know what I think.

On May.19.2005 at 01:03 AMFinally watched it last night. Definitely dated, and the last 20 minutes were profoundly gratuitous, not to mention inadvertently hilarious at times. But the story of Elmyr and Irving was fascinating, and it raise alot of interesting questions about art and authenticity and the role of the expert in the art market. some interesting editing choices and cinematography too.
