Ise shrine is made up of the Naiku, officially known as Kotai shrine, dedicated to the worship of Amaterasu Omikami, goddess of the sun, and the Geku, or Toyouke Omikami, the deity of agriculture, bestowing rice, food, clothing and shelter. Including the subsidiary Shinto shrines and sanctuaries that belong to the Naiku and Geku, there are a total of 125 shrines making Ise shrine the largest shrine in Japan.

Meoto Iwa (Husband and Wife Rocks)

This pair of rocks is situated in the sea off Tachiishizaki in the precincts of Futami-Okitama Shrine. The sacred rocks are linked by five huge straw ropes which are replaced in May, September and December every year.
